I know this is probably a crazy question-we’re thinking of heading to Myrtle Beach for the first time-I’ve heard there are alligators around, is this true??
This could make or break the vacation plans!!! Thanks for any input!! You would have to go out of your way and try to find one. Have heard of some down in the State Park and marshy areas south of MB. Some golfers have seen them on couple of courses. Not like you would meet one in parking lot or anything. Nothing like parts of Florida. Been going to beach for forty plus years and only one I ever saw was at Barefoot Landing.
Large lake in center of shopping complex. Walkways across lake. Saw alligator floating maybe hundred yards away. No danger. People were stopping and taking pics. We have alot of sharks around our piers, and there are times of the year when the jelly fish are pretty thick. But you should not worry about an alligator encounter. I have been going to MB my whole life, and I have never seen an alligator Like another poster, we were at Barefoot Landing. But rather than floating out in the water, this one was fully out of the water on the bank, probably 10 feet from the bridge over the pond.
There was very little danger, of course, of its being able to actually bite anyone the area was fenced off by the bridge , so it was just a very neat occasion to get close to a quite-large alligator. Perhaps I was just emboldened by the fact that I had just finished taking a picture with a tiger, a chimp, and a couple of monkeys! Skip to main content.
