Emily Root from Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper will share their work with the Town of Niagara to restore and reconnect the floodplain of the Cayuga Creek, with funding in part from the Climate Smart Communities Grant program. This project restores habitat, mitigates downstream flooding, and improves community access. The conference asks: How can democratic rage be harnessed in social and political movements? Is rage essential to call out systemic and ingrained injustice?
How can a politics of rage acknowledge rational and expert authority? If humans are tribal beings, how can they live in multicultural liberal societies? Are experts and elites themselves simply one tribe defending their self-interests?
Must social media contribute to the fracturing of society into raging tribes? Is there a common interest in society knowable through reason? Above all, how can we uphold our liberal institutions and our common world in the midst of the polarization and fracturing of that world?
The —23 edition, Common Ground , is a year-long international program focusing on the politics of land and food and taking place on four continents. The festival includes two four-day festivals at and around the Fisher Center—one at harvest time October 13—16, , and one in the growing season May 4—7, Youth, leaders, and 4-H staff will be sharing projects and interactive activities with those interested in joining 4-H in Ulster County.

These long-lived giants also shape the environment around them. Why do large trees die? And how does their loss impact carbon dynamics, biodiversity, and the composition of forests? These are among the questions that forest ecologist Dr. Evan Gora will discuss. His research combines fieldwork, modeling, big data, and emerging technology to understand and forecast threats to big trees, with a focus on lightning in the tropics. We know from satellites that the tropics receive million lightning strikes annually.

Later the climate warmed and the ice melted back to the north. Several cycles of glacial advance and retreat occurred, and their combined erosive processes shaped our picturesque scenery. Rain date Sunday October 23rd.
