A Favorite among locals and visitors alike; it is simply amazing on Max Patch regardless of the time of the year or the weather. It is a relatively short hike to the top, and Max Patch is on the Appalachian Trail if you want to do a bit of adventuring.
If you want an adventure photography shoot without a long hike, this is the spot. Check out this guide to Max Patch. This is another bald mountain with long-range views. Black Balsam is also home to our favorite trails, which provide fantastic Balsam forest photos and mountain top photos.
It is also possible to get waterfalls photos in this area to have it all in one photoshoot. Janes Bald is also located on the Appalachian Trail, so there are plenty of adventures to be had.
This is another fantastic area for adventure photography around Asheville. It provides long-range views at the top with a nice view of looking glass rock.

If you love waterfalls, this is your spot. It is easy enough to visit six different falls in one adventure photoshoot. This area also offers privacy as it does not see as much traffic as some of the other spots. Fields, streams, and mountain views all with a large elk herd that will be present during the photoshoot.
Some old houses and churches are accessible for the shoot as well. This place offers some one-of-a-kind adventure photos without much hiking. Expect long-range views of the Great Smoky Mountains as you cross the balds. The grass fields make great backdrops for photos.

Here are three of our favorite spots to snap the perfect shot. One of the most picturesque drives in the entire country, the Blue Ridge Parkway is full of shots to capture! This winding route is surrounded by trees, trails, and scenic overlooks that are just waiting to be photographed. During the spring and summer, these mountains are surrounded by countless blooming wildflowers that will provide excellent close-ups.
When autumn comes, the trees turn from green to fiery shades of red and yellow. In the winter, you can even get some shots of the area blanketed in white snow. Our favorite part of the Blue Ridge Parkway is its scenic overlooks; they are perfect for setting up a tripod to capture a time-lapse of the sunrise or sunset over the mountains. One of the most beautiful features of our area is the countless waterfalls that can be found amongst the mountains.
There are a few different ways to photography waterfalls effectively. With the help of a tripod, you can use a small aperture, slow shutter speed, and low ISO to get a nice motion blur. Or, you can choose a very fast shutter speed to capture more detail in the flowing water. The optimal weather for shooting these falls is overcast for lighting reasons, but many of these falls are shaded amongst the trees.
If you want a city environment to be the focus of your photos, then head into downtown Asheville! City Hall in Asheville, NC, is an iconic landmark that is great to photograph for those that enjoy architecture.
